bin storage for toys

20 Best Toy Storage Ideas

    Toy Storage Ideas

Since I first shared Family Playroom Ideas with you, our family has grown and the amount of toys has too. We have loved the colorful and whimsical play area for our kids, but as they’ve aged we have been in need of additional solutions for our playroom organization. I’m excited to share a playroom makeover with you today along with the 20 best toy storage ideas.

    Table of Contents

    • Toy Storage Ideas
    • How do you maximize space in a small playroom?
    • How do I organize my playroom?
    • What is the best way to organize toys?
    • Where can I buy playroom furniture?

    • This RiverRidge Home Catch-all Cubby is available at (with bins) or (with bins) or (bins sold separately) and has a clean, white painted finish and four solid pine wood legs, is ideally sized for children at 29” high and secures to the wall for added safety. The folding fabric storage bins conceal clutter and are available in a variety of colors.

I love the dump bins for the toys the baby loves so it’s easy for him to pull out, and easy for us to clean up. The shelving can be used open or you can add the coordinating fabric storage bins to add a pop of color and hide clutter.

    • Here’s a similar option that has open shelving. The Kids’ Bookcase with Toy Organizer is available at Target (as a kit with bins). I’ve put some of of their favorite books, along with blocks in containers and baskets, and used the top for some colorful toy display.

How do you maximize space in a small playroom?

    • I like to stick to a simple color scheme to give the eye to rest and avoid clutter.
    • Take advantage of vertical storage ideas, like these ladder style book shelves. They are available at Wayfair and pair perfectly with the RiverRidge Home pieces. The deep shelves are great for displaying books as well as bins or accessories. These are pieces that can truly grow with a child as well.
    • Try wall mounted book shelves or ledges to also take advantage of vertical storage space.

How do I organize my playroom?

Like tackling the organization of any room I think it is best to get everything out where you can see it first, then follow these steps:

    • Sort and discard broken toys or toys that have missing pieces, etc.
    • Donate toys that have been outgrown or are not regularly played with.
    • Create a “home” for each type of toy and label so kids know where to put things away. Depending on age(s) you may write the names or use pictures.
    • Use kid friendly storage pieces like I shared above. Shelves and bins that are easily accessible to kids will encourage clean up.
    • Put “messy” toys and art supplies out of reach.
    • Create a library with low bookshelves or purchase a piece or furniture specifically designed to hold books.
    • Display your child’s favorite art pieces on the wall.

I also used a small Bookrack in the castle play area where the girls toys are and they love having the two cubbies and organized space for their books. It has two cubbies at the bottom that hold bins because let’s face it, you can’t have too much storage when it comes to toys.

I’m now working on organizing their space so I’ll share it on the blog when I get done. If you’re a girl mom, you can relate to all the baby dolls, barbie dolls, doll houses, dress up, and play kitchen toys.

What is the best way to organize toys?

In addition to creating “homes” for toys, I think its important to have a spot for odds and ends. Enter the Catch-all Toy box. This is a modern spin on the traditional toy box. It is sleek and perfectly matches the Catch-all Cubby for a cohesive look. I love the book slots on each end for easy access to books for kids, and its reassuring to have the child safety hinge so I don’t have to worry about small fingers.

I filled this toy box with dinosaurs, but I want to get another one for the inside of the girls’ castle play space for their Barbie storage! I love that this item can double as an extra seat when their friends are visiting.

Where can I buy playroom furniture?

Purchase playroom furniture box stores like Target or Walmart or you can shop at online stores like Wayfair and Amazon. I shared many of my sources of our furniture and decor on my page. Also, if you are looking for more playroom ideas, but sure to check out these .

Our playroom has gotten a lot of use over the years and I have had fun decorating it for parties and holidays like these and .
