MSC adds 20 ultra-large container ship newbuildings to its huge tally

All vessels being built in China for a total $17bn across five yards

History was made in April when the 23,782-teu MSC Diletta (built 2021) became the largest container vessel ever to call at a West African port calling at Tema in Ghana.

Gianluigi Aponte-led MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has boosted its tally of container ships over 20,000 teu with a round of fresh orders and upgrades.

The world’s largest liner company has extended its already mammoth orderbook for the vessel type by 20 ships with a series of fresh contracts and upgrades of existing orders.

The latest orders bring MSC’s tally of ultra-large container ships on order to 74.
