Open Impeller System

A Better Way to Service Open Impeller Pumps

For machinists and other craftsmen who work with pumps, it’s well known how difficult it can be to repair an open impeller pump. These expensive, heavy-duty components can get damaged easily if proper tools aren’t used. If you regularly work with an open type impeller, now you have access to a wrench system that will make repairs simpler, safer, and less stressful—for both you and your equipment.

The KIRIS System (Key Impeller Removal and Installation System) is a groundbreaking design that helps you maintain your impeller pumps with confidence and control.

When making repairs to a low flow open impeller pump, it’s easy to make mistakes that can warp the vanes of the impeller. Once damaged, this can eventually lead to premature pump failure. The KIRIS wrench system helps prevent these user errors and allows you to get the work done without touching any sharp-edged impellers.

    How It Works

The wrench system works by evenly distributing pressure around the eye of the impeller. This enables an even force of torque to allow the impeller to pop off in a manner that is safe for both the pump components and your hands.

    What’s Included in the Kit

Your KIRIS wrench system includes all the tools needed to repair your ANSI centrifugal pump:

A wrench for the odd-number (5 vane) impeller

A wrench for the even-number (6 vane) impeller

A 3-piece input shaft socket that fits all standard sizes and key types

How to Use the KIRIS Open Impeller System

Remove the coupling hub and key from the pump shaft.

Select the correct input shaft socket from your KIRIS kit based on your pump size.

Insert the appropriate key and install the socket onto the drive end of the shaft.

Determine whether the impeller has an even or odd number of vanes.

Select the matching impeller wrench: EV for even vane impellers or OV for odd vane impellers.

Place the impeller wrench onto the impeller eye, making sure it is fully seated and aligned.

Place a wrench on the drive end socket and another wrench on the impeller wrench.

Apply torque in opposite directions to break the impeller loose from the shaft.

Once the impeller is removed, reverse the steps to reassemble after service or cleaning.

    Reliable. Repeatable. Essential.

The KIRIS wrench system is a comprehensive kit that enables you to easily complete repair jobs on a centrifugal open impeller pump. Safety and ease of use make this the only kit you need to get the job done right and keep your pumps maintained in good working order for years to come.
