Hydraulic Institute (HI), the pump industry’s knowledge leader and foremost resource for pump education, has announced the kick-off of their Spring 2009 Webinar Standards Series titled _“Making Sense of the ANSI/HI Slurry Pump Standard_.” Among the pump user community, HI is known for world-class standards that define pump nomenclature, definitions, applications, operation and test procedures. Based on these standards, Hydraulic Institute is now offering straight talk and informative live presentations by subject matter experts delivered right to a pump professional’s desktop – home or office. Participants will be led by and have access to industry-leading experts in a non-commercial educational forum.
In a three-part series, slurry pump expert, Graeme Addie, vice president of engineering and research & development for GIW Industries Inc., will explain nuances of the slurry pump standard and discuss industry terminology, design, application, installation, operation, and maintenance guidelines.Under Addie’s leadership, the Hydraulic Institute Slurry Committee developed the ANSI/HI 12.1-12.6, 2005 Standard, Rotodynamic (Centrifugal) Slurry Pumps for Nomenclature, Definitions, Applications, and Operation. Addie has addressed thousands of pump users worldwide, and has authored/coauthored over 80 publications. In addition, he holds six patents.
The ANSI/HI Slurry Pump Standard was created to help eliminate misunderstandings between the pump manufacturer, the purchaser and/or the user. Standards also assist the purchaser in selecting and obtaining the proper product for pumping and/or transporting mixtures of solids and liquids or so-called slurries. The standard also provides significant educational content, to help users understand the basic needs and design requirements of slurry pump and pipeline systems.
Addie will discuss slurry terms, slurry types, pipeline design velocity, estimation of piping friction, froth handling and effect on pump performance.
In this session, Addie will discuss slurry pump types, their application, pump hydraulic design, mechanical design features, assembly, nozzle loads and testing.
This session will focus on slurry pump wear, service classes, selection, application, materials of construction, operation and maintenance.

All HI webinar participants earn HI Professional Development Hours. PDHs are accepted by most certification and licensing entities.
