Rough Waters Walkthrough Chart

1 Approach Tifa or Aerith to trigger a cutscene

2 Defeat Abzu

3 Head out of the hole and follow the waterway

4 Once you reach a locked door, head to the room opposite it, and turn on the power generator

5 Leave the room, and head right to get the Skeleton Key

6 Head back to the locked door to unlock it

7 Continue following the path until a few cutscenes play

8 Keep moving forward until you reach the Sewer's Primary Treatment room

9 Head to the control room, and use the lever

10 Operate the Wastewater Pump

11 Head back to the control room and activate the lever again

12 Make your way to the ladder leading to the Sewer's exit

12.5 (Optional) Get the Warding Materia from the sewers before you leave

13 A cutscene will play to end the chapter

1. Choose Who To Talk To First

At the beginning of chapter 10, you'll have the choice to talk to Tifa or Aerith first. Whoever you choose will lead to changes in a future event!

2. Abzu Is Weak to Fire

Abzu is a tanky enemy with tons of high damage attacks. However, you will be able to whittle its health down by using fire attacks on its horn. Make sure to equip strong fire attacks like Firaga before starting the battle!

2, 7. Operate Levers to Open Sluice Gates

You will not be able to pass through bodies of water. If you need to get across, look for levers near the Sluice Gates. Using these levers will allow you to drain the water from the sewer, letting you pass.

5. Getting the Skeleton Key

The Skeleton Key will be underwater. Operate the Sluice Gate to lower the water levels in the room. Once the water is gone, you can go down and retrieve the Skeleton Key.

10. Operating the Wastewater Pump

Keep mashing O to increase the red area's size on the pump. This will give you much more leeway when trying to get the pin to land in the red area.

Weakness: Fire

Items Dropped: - Phoenix Down

Stealable Items: - Turbo Ether

Focus On Its Horns

Abzu may be tanky, but it is susceptible to fire damage. Use strong attacks like Firaga on its horns to set it on fire. Once its on fire, it will stop attacking and flail around. Use this to get a few good hits in!

Summon Ifrit to Deal Damage

Another great way to effectively damage Abzu is to summon Ifrit. Most of its attacks are fire attacks, meaning that it is highly effective against Abzu.

Watch Out When Abzu Jumps on the Rails

Be on your guard when Abzu jumps up onto the rails. It will either pounce at you or use the Backwater Blast attack. These are heavy damage attacks so be ready to dodge out of the way, or heal your teammates that get caught in the attack!
