Can anyone tell me best way to remove oil pump on styled john deere model. Thanks Don
Not sure there is a best way ? I figure the G is the same as all the others in that you have to unhook all the oil lines inside the crankcase going to and from the oil pump no easy task. Small hands and stubby wrenches will be very helpful ! Then remove the usually 3 bolts or nuts that hold the pump to main case and drop it down. It may need some prying to get it started ?
Thanks for the reply I don't know if the pump is my problem it has no oil pressure on guage but when I disconnect line it is getting oil to gage which i placed with new gage which made no difference.I have done about everything to the gs except have to replace oil pump I am 84 years old so can not do things as well as my younger days. Thanks Again Don
JD tractors usually don't have oil pump problems. Someone could of put too thick of a cover gasket on the bottom ? Oil pump drive couplings break but then you have no oil at all. Could be a collapsed oil filter housing from filter cover being overtightened ? Or possibly a broken oil line ? Top cover of the engine has to come off for a look inside.
What type of gauge did you put on? Might not be reading the low pressure of a G. Also it could be the coupling for the oil pump. just some ideas.
Mike I have the cover off and I have checked all lines the best I can not see any broken or cracked lines I took all fitting to filter housing loose when I got tractor the oil gage was smashed and the plate and spring was missing in filter cover which I replaced.so very possible filter housing is bad hope you don't mind me telling you all this stuff is there a way to tell if housing is collapsed. By the way this a nice gw that I have redone oil pressure only problem it runs real good. Thanks Don
Sam I tried two gages both the same I don't think it could be coupler as it does pump some oil with line disconnected. Thanks for reply Don
Most I saw with bad filter housings or broken top castings where the bypass regulator was you could see it. Now if the top of the filter can was only slightly bowed it will be hard to see. I'd drop the gear cover off the pump for a look and make sure the gasket is of the proper thickness. Long one will fall out of coupling so be careful when reinstalling it. If gears are chewed up it might be easy to spot ? Have you tried to adjust the pressure ? Most have a way to do it either external or from inside on the top of the filter can where many have the pressure regulator.
Mike thanks I will try that and let you know what happens. Don
Hi Mike turned pressure adjustment up about four turns put it back togeather have good oil pressure now I feel rather dumb for not doing that in first place but didn't think it could be that simple guess I am getting to old to work on these thing BUT THANKS VERY MUCH FOR ALL THE HELP Don
Hi Mike Just thought I would update you on my g oil pressure I turned up pressure and got good oil pressure but everytime I would start it would be less until no oil pressure again.removed oil filter head and canister replaced gaskets it is fine with no bulge removed oil pump gears look like new with no wear on plate don't know what to try next.
