OVERHAULING OF CENTRIFUGAL PUMP AIM:

To dismantle, overhaul and then assemble a vertical centrifugal pump.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

PROCEDURE

1.Volut e casing fro nt cover was r emoved aft er loose ning the casi ng nuts and bol ts (jack up if ne cessar y).2.Gland p acking cover w as di sconne cted and all ol d packi ng rem oved.3.The shaf t with - i mpell er, shaf t sleeve, weari ng was tak en to the wor k bench.4.Impel ler l ocking nut at the sh aft f ree end was re moved.5.Ke y re mo ve d an d ke pt s af e.6.Impel ler wh ich i s fre e now c an be r emoved usin g a pul ler.7.Beari ng was remov ed and k ept f or heat ing for ease of fitt ing.8.All part s were clea ned using a buff ing mach ine to remove any sc ale form atio ns and eroded sur faces.9.Wear ri ng clear ances wer e checked an d if not wit hin the l imit it w as remo ved.10.Gland packing area on the shaft sl eeve was checked. If scoring marks are prominent which then sleeve replaced.11.Bearing if worn out replaced or t he old one is used.12.Impeller blades wer e checked for erosi on of blade mater ial and corrosion.13.Impel ler was remo unted and locked wit h lock nut.14.Shaft was connected to the motor coupling, key in place.15.Front half casing cover was boxed back wi th new paper joint and ti ghtened.16.Gland packing to be checked if in pl ace and cover tight ened.17.Shaft rotated for one revolution and check for freeness.18.All connec tions wer e given back and pump primed.

RESULT:

Thus the vertical centrifugal pump was overhauled.
