Pumping slurry with the Doda and its leaking slurry onto the ground. How difficult is it to change the seal and time wise how long does it take? What is the cost of a new seal. Using this pump now for 7 years so this will be our first. Two days left before the ban so hopefully the thing makes it.
If it the mechanical seal there is a chance there is just a bit of trash or plastic stuck in it. In terms of how big job, everything out from the back, rainy day job to be honest if you haven't had it apart in a long time.
Basically, I won't know until I take it down? Is there more than one seal or is the mechanical seal the only one?
Just mechanical seal as I remember it. As long as you got the tools your be fine, impeller can't be a twit to get off sometimes, but it's all fairly straightforward.
New ceramic seal kit is £250 did one in my garda pump last winter.
Slacken the2 bolts on the plate and the back part will slide on shaft.give it a good hose out and tighten back up that should help in seeing if its knackered or as @mtx said mybe just a bit of plastic.
itll dribble away like that for long enough, shouldnt suddenly get worse. Only adverse effect could be priming will be more awkward. not a huge job, but if i remember right is the threaed bit on the shaft a left hand thread?
Well here's your news seal, prob the cheapest place, I have a friend who trying a hydraulic seal in its place, it works but it's starting to wear the shaft.
in terms of how long to rebuild one, now I've chucked the chopper in scrap bin I can usually do a rebuild in 3-4 hours! But I've done it quite a few times.
If it started all of a sudden and your n a particularly dirty pit I'd say possible something behind impeller.
It will be fine as long as it still primes okay, when you get on some thicker slurry it will probably heel up
Cheer for the info guys and the link to the seal purchase. Priming seems ok but once it's primed, I have to start the pto straight away or it just loses vacuum and I have to start all over. Should have plenty of time to look at it when this slurry ban kicks in.
Has anyone any advice on removing the impeller on a hd35. Have got the castle nut off. Is there a locking collar behind that? - before impeller, also does it just spin off cheers
assume threaded holes in impeller are worn and you can’t use them to push it off. It impeller is just on shaft with key and should come off after but taken off, what I do is go around front of pump, and wind the 2 17 mm bolt heads out equally, to push housing forward and in turn pushes impeller off. Don’t forget to loosen 4 pump housing bolts at the front. And once the 17mm bolt heads are tight I might have to hit the impeller to break the seal so to speak. Sounds easy in my head but writing it is difficult.
