Main advantage is not putting hrs on tractor so cheaper to replace but dont have a man sat in a tractor whatching pump clocking hrs up on tractor keeping dry and warm have him sit in an old cheap car lol I think i would not bother with clutch old rope seals may off needed muck water too cool when runing but new seals are ok dry ( i believe) am shure i will be told lol As no load on engine at start up and if you knock down to tick over it will stop pumping or have a setting to keep at a rev that it doesnt loose prim I would defo fit it with a auto shut down if water temp hi or oil presh low but put an extra cost on r

I used Murphy switch gauges on all my engine driven umbilical pumps. Had two methods of pump control. One was telemetry from the tractor seat, and the other was done through the pressure gauge itself. Turning on the headland, the operator would shut valve on the injector or dribble bar, pressure would build in the line, needle climbs to pre-set limit, make contact with upper set tab, and throttle controller shuts the engine back to idle, holding charge in the line. Once headland turn is done, operator opens valve, pressure drops, needle falls, makes contact with lower tab and throttle controller opens up engine to running speed. This system also had water temp and oil pressure safety shutdown. Very simple system to set up and operate.

Been looking at making our own engine driven pump so went to see this one. Before the new pump is order (Doda)trying to get idea how to build which engine and how to set up a clutch on them.

I had my own engine driven umbilical pumps, using Perkins 6354’s and Ford 275E engines. Good old simple motors with no computers! And after using positive displacement pumps, the Doda’s stayed in the shed. PD pumps are so much more efficient at moving liquids than centrifugal pumps, use less fuel and run slower. Output is far greater as there’s no cavitation, and frictional loss is minimal, because what goes in must come out at the same pressure and volume, wether it’s 100yds away, or a mile away. And in most situations, does away with a booster on a long pump.
