Just ordered a water pump for my 2005. I figured Gates would be a good brand. It arrived stamped MADE IN CHINA. Was twice the price of other Chinese junk. The bearing wobbled and was crap. The gasket didn't fit. It went back to RockAuto.
As they say, be advised. I don't want to do the job twice or pay for garbage.
Another quality American brand selling its soul for a quick buck. Word will get out.
Everything is made of Chinadium now… I’ve not had any problems with Gates. I usually use GMB.
Agreed, never had a problem with Gates, it's still one of my go-to brands.
Pretty much everything comes from the same couple factories in China and gets shipped to a distribution center where they're split and packaged into the band's packaging. Some brands do seem to have bettter quality control with the parts, but sometimes mistakes get through the process or items get damaged during shipping.
Good luck finding American brands (or European brands) with parts actually made in-country and not in China, Taiwan, or another low labor cost country.
not much is made here. Being made in the USA don't always mean its any better as well. Many brands have shipped off the building parts, then will say catch phrases like "Designed in the USA".
Not all stuff from China is " tofu dregs".
Recently replaced a name brand TPS on Liberty. Package (the box itself) printed in USA, sensor made in China.
And don't forget "Assembled in the USA"
“With parts from various locations” eg: China
I think it's "Assembled in USA with globally source parts" or materials, something like that.
One reason I’ve taken to rebuilding the OEM starters and alternators instead of buying new. Thinking water pumps may be next they tend to not last long.
In Amazon you can find mopar water pump!
I’ve used gates stuff on my other cars (Mercedes Volvo ) never had issues
