multistage pump working principle

Sump pump

    Sump pump

Hey guys, can anyone one recommend a decent sump pump with a float switch.

I have one of these that I use in a large water butt that collects rain water and I spray it on the veg,

I have two of these pumps for my pond waste and they have been fine for over a year. I have changed the active rcd plug though as any brief power interruption kills the power until it is reset.

If you're placing it in a smallish sump pit, you might look for one with a tube float switch rather than a cable float. I had issues with the float catching on the wall and either stocking on or not comming on at all. I now use one of these

Thanks for the replies my sump pump will be placed in a sunken dustbin in my filter house. It will need to keep up with BD purges and filter clean outs. The distance it will need to pump is approximately 8 or 9 meters to a drain.

I've a little Hozelock pump sat on the bottom of my sump, for when I purge the bottom drain. It only has to pump up about three feet, then gravity helps as the wastepipe runs about 30ft to a house drain. As I only use it after purging the bottom drain, once or twice a week it doesn't get a lot of use. So if you have a similar system a pump around fifty quid or less would be adequate. Mine's about fifteen years old now.

Cheers doghouse riley, I would have loved a proper drain in the first place but my garden is on a slope so not possible. I like your sump design I guess I will need a fairly powerful pump to push all the waste with the length and head for my setup.

Both of my pumps have around fifteen meters of pipe attached, one is 1 1/2" the other is 1 1/4". The pump that is furthest from the drain drains into the sump that is nearer and gets relayed to the drain from there. I like the idea of a tube float as it can be a bit of a faf getting the float switch in the right place so it doesn't catch on anything.

I ended up ordering this pump in the end.

I got one of those too. Originally i had a Titan but it stopped working after 2 weeks so they let me pay the difference on a Karcher.

Lol, exactly the same thing, I think mine was about 3 and half weeks
