These systems consist of a ground or water loop connected to an indoor unit. In heating mode, the water or antifreeze solution in the loop absorbs heat from the ground or water source and carries it to the heat pump. The heat pump then extracts the heat and releases it indoors to warm the house. During cooling, the process is reversed, with the heat pump extracting heat from indoor air and transferring it back to the ground or water source.
