    What is Foam Pump?

A foam pump, or squeeze foamer and dispensing device is a non-aerosol way of dispensing liquid materials. The foam pump outputs the liquid in the form of foam and it is operated by squeezing. The parts of the foam pump, mostly made from polypropylene (PP), are similar to those of other pump devices. The foaming pump often comes with a protective cap.

    Benefits of Foam Pump

One of the main advantages of using foam pumps is their cost-effectiveness. Foam pumps can dispense a precise amount of product with each pump, reducing waste and saving money in the long run. With foam pumps, you can use less product to achieve the same level of cleanliness, making them an economical choice for businesses and households.

Another significant advantage of foam pumps is their hygienic nature. Foam pumps are designed to dispense a pre-measured amount of product, reducing the risk of contamination and the spread of germs. With foam pumps, you don't have to worry about touching the dispenser with your hands, reducing the risk of cross-contamination and infection.

Foam pumps are easy to use and require minimal effort to dispense the product. With a simple push of a button, you can dispense the perfect amount of foam or liquid, making them ideal for children, elderly people, and individuals with limited mobility.

Foam pumps are designed to dispense a precise amount of product with each pump, ensuring consistent results every time. This makes them an ideal choice for products that require accurate dosing, such as medications or cleaning solutions.

Foam pumps can help reduce the environmental impact of consumer and industrial products. By using less product per use, foam pumps can help reduce waste and lower the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing and transportation. Additionally, many foam pump manufacturers are committed to using sustainable materials and reducing their environmental impact.

Foam pumps are highly customizable, allowing manufacturers to tailor the product to their specific needs. Foam pumps can be made in a variety of sizes and shapes, with different colors, branding, and labeling options available. This makes them an ideal choice for businesses looking to create a unique brand identity and increase product recognition.

Foam pumps are highly effective and do greatly help in conserving the product that is being dispensed. They are easy to clean and maintained, as well.

Foam pumps can be reused. All you have to do is simply clean the pump and refill the it with new content repeatedly. These pumps, even though usually made of plastic, are made from durable materials to be highly effective and serve several pumps ahead.

    Types of Foam Pump

These are the most common type of foam pumps and are suitable for a wide range of products, including hand soap, body wash, and shampoo. They create a rich and thick foam that is easy to apply and rinse off. The standard foam pump has a standard size and can be used with most bottles and containers.

Mini foam pumps are smaller than standard foam pumps and are designed for travel-sized products. They create a fine and airy foam that is gentle on the skin and easy to use. Mini foam pumps are suitable for hand sanitizer, face wash, and other small products that need to be portable and easy to carry.

Industrial foam pumps are designed for heavy-duty applications and can handle thicker products like detergents and cleaning agents. They create a high-quality foam that is suitable for cleaning large surfaces and equipment. Industrial foam pumps have a large size and are often used in commercial and industrial settings.

Fine mist foam pumps are designed to create a fine and smooth foam that is suitable for hair products like mousse and styling foam. They create a gentle and lightweight foam that is easy to apply and distribute evenly. Fine mist foam pumps are suitable for hair care products that require a delicate touch and even application.

Foamer pumps are a type of foam pump that creates a dense and creamy foam that is ideal for shaving creams and foaming hand soaps. They create a thick foam that adheres to the skin, making it easier to shave or wash hands. Foamer pumps have a special design that allows them to create a rich foam without the need for additional additives or thickeners.

Trigger spray foam pumps are designed to create a sprayable foam that can be applied to surfaces and equipment. They are suitable for cleaning products that need to be sprayed onto surfaces and then wiped clean. Trigger spray foam pumps have a unique design that allows them to create a foam that is suitable for both cleaning and disinfecting.

Reverse foam pumps are a unique type of foam pump that creates a foam by pulling the liquid product back up into the container. They are suitable for thick and viscous products that are difficult to dispense with traditional foam pumps. Reverse foam pumps have a special design that allows them to create a dense and high-quality foam without the need for additional thickeners or additives.

    Application of Foam Pump

Foam pumps have found their wide applications in manufacturing of cosmetic products and varieties of household chemicals. These include hand washing liquid, mousse foam cleansing, facial cleanser, hand sanitizer, hair conditioning mousse, shaving cream, sun protection foams, baby products and spot removers and many more.

Along with this, foam pumps have found huge scopes in food and beverage industry as molecular-based gastronomic styles, which based on various techniques and via usage of stabilizers.

    Components of Foam Pump

The function is to transfer the force to other parts inside the product by pressing the head, and realize the process of down-pressure rebound circulation and liquid discharge of the foam pump through the spring. According to the shape of the head, it can be designed into different shapes and colors according to the needs (as shown in the picture above).

The function is to squeeze out the liquid in the liquid storage cavity during the process of pressing the head down, and suck the liquid in the bottle into the liquid storage cavity when the head rebounds; in addition, the built-in spring in the liquid storage cavity plays a rebound role.

Similar to the liquid storage cavity, except that air is sucked and extruded in the air storage cavity.

The connection part between the liquid in the bottle and the whole pump, and the channel through which the liquid enters the liquid storage cavity to ensure that the liquid in the bottle can be ejected quickly and reduce the residual amount of liquid.

When the head is pressed down, the liquid and air in the liquid-storing chamber and the air-storing chamber are fully mixed and pressurized in the gas-liquid mixing chamber, and fine foam is formed through the dense mesh of the air-flow mixing chamber.

    How to Maintain Foam Pump

Bottles can be refilled and used again and again. The manufacturer has tested the bottle/pump design and found it mechanically works for up to 12,000 pumps per unit. In practical application it may be considerably less, depending on the soap used and the care and environment of the pump.

The pumps are not designed to be used under running water. Use in the shower is not recommended and the bottles should not be placed or washed under running water. Doing so may allow water to seep down the neck and get into the air chamber located beneath the pump.

Do not overfill the bottles. If you actually measure out the right amount of liquid for the bottle size, you'll see that it doesn't actually fill to the very top of the bottle. This is to prevent liquid from getting into the air chamber.

As the pump is used, there is residual liquid on the screen. If the pump is not used frequently, that soap liquid can dry, creating a film on the screen which can ultimately clog the screen making the pump hard to use.

The pump mechanism has a small amount of lubricant in order to keep the pump moving smoothly. While I haven't been able to get confirmation from the manufacturer, it seems that some soaps eat away at the lubricant, reducing its effectiveness over time. So far I have not been able to identify why the lubricant is affected by some soaps and not others.

    Principle of Foam Pump

Foam pumps are mainly used in products such as hand sanitizer, cleansing water, shampoo and shower gel, especially for children's products. The internal structure of the foam pump is relatively complicated.

After the content in the bottle passes through the mesh inside the foam pump, the content is wrapped in air and is beaten into bubbles by the fine mesh, so what is pressed out is foam.

    How to Choose Foam Pump

Dosage is an important factor to consider in choosing the right foam pump. Of course, you would not want all liquid to pour out in just one squeeze. There is a lot of variety when it comes to the dosage of foam pumps. 0..25cc, 0.4cc, 0.8cc, 1.2cc, and 3.0cc are the common dosages available in the market. The availability of dosages will matter to the foam pump manufacturer or supplier.

The foam quality is also a factor as it is important to know if the pump will generate big bubbles or small bubbles. The quality of foam being discharged by the foam pump relies on how much force the pump can generate as well as the openings in its tip. The foaming chamber of the pump is also a factor. The quality of the foam on the pumps relies on how the pumps are made, that is why it is important to know the quality of foam pumps your manufacturer is making.

The amount of effort you are going to exert in squeezing the pump can affect the success of your product. Most consumers want a much easier to squeeze pump. The ability to press the pump head with one finger while pumping out rich foam is a sign that the pump is on great quality. Having a hard to squeeze pump will result in an unequal discharge of dosage in the liquid.

One of the most common factors in choosing the right materials to store your products is the capability of storing its contents. Leakage is common in bottles where the liquid is stored. It is better to check the pumps or even the bottle itself if it is susceptible to leakage. Also, always consider that the liquid should now leak inside the housing of the pump. This will result in a malfunction in the pump where the foam head will not return to its original position when squeezed.

Being aware of the quality of the materials used, we should also bear in mind that the components being installed such as bearings or springs inside the pump are also quality made. Stainless or rust-free springs must be installed in pumps as rust will cause the pump to get stuck. Also, rust itself is dangerous to our health.

Troubleshooting Tips for Your Foaming Pump Bottles

Don’t use your pump under running water or overfill bottles – If water gets into the air chamber it may cause the pump to fail.

Don’t seal the bottle too tightly – This may affect performance, and you’ll start seeing the actual bottle creating suction. Loosen lid and continue using.

Keep your pump active – If you don’t use your foaming pump frequently enough, any soap trapped in the mechanism can dry and cause the pump to stick or fail.

Try flushing the pump in fresh water – Just remove the pump top and place in a glass of water. Keep pressing until clear water is being dispersed. Then try again with your bottle.

Don’t use additives beyond castile soap, essential oils and water – There is a little mesh screen inside your pump that allows the soap and air to mix, creating foam. These holes are so super tiny, and they can clog easily. Therefore, adding thickeners, glitter, micas, powdered colouring etc, will cause your mechanism to fail.

Try turning the bottle upside down and pumping – I’ve heard some manufacturers recommend this.

    FAQ

I suggest placing approximately 30mls of liquid soap into the bottle and 30mls of water into the bottle, and then pump the foam and test it for lather and consistency. In this way, you can slowly dilute or increase your product volume until you have just the foaminess you prefer.

You can't just add normal soap into a foaming dispenser as it is generally too thick. So you will have to water it down a little. Measure out the soap & water in equal parts. Typically you will need to add 1 part soap to 4 parts water to get a good mix suitable for a foaming dispenser.

Foaming hand soap is intended to be used in a special dispenser, as the label shows. The dispenser is what makes it foam and last a long time - it makes it come out like shaving cream. People who complain this soap is watery are just not using the correct foaming dispenser.

A foam pump dispenses doses of the liquid contained in the bottle in the form of foam. Foam is created in the foaming chamber. The liquid constituents are mixed in the foaming chamber and this is discharged through a nylon mesh.

Standard soap dispensers do not pump air into the soap they dispense which has a much thicker consistency than foaming hand soap. If foaming soap is mistakenly pumped through a standard soap dispenser it will squirt out without any soap foam being produced.

CHEMGUARD Foam Concentrate Pumps are constructed of corrosion-resistant brass and stainless steel and for use with all types of firefighting foam concentrates. These pumps supply foam concentrate under pressure when used in foam firefighting systems of the balanced pressure type.

You can't just add normal soap into a foaming dispenser as it is generally too thick. So you will have to water it down a little. Measure out the soap & water in equal parts.

Sticking is typically caused by soap build up and oil ingredient build up; over time the foaming pump may stay in the down position due to the soap creating a “glue” over time. If your foaming pump is not cleaned periodically (typically with each refill) this may occur.

Keep your pump active – If you don't use your foaming pump frequently enough, any soap trapped in the mechanism can dry and cause the pump to stick or fail. 〉 Try flushing the pump in fresh water – Just remove the pump top and place in a glass of water. Keep pressing until clear water is being dispersed.

The foam is created by mixing soap and water in the cannon, which is then pressurized and released onto the vehicle's surface. The pressure of the water helps break up the soap and create a thick, clinging foam that sticks to the surface, helping to loosen and remove dirt and grime.

A foam pump dispenses doses of the liquid contained in the bottle in the form of foam. Foam is created in the foaming chamber. The liquid constituents are mixed in the foaming chamber and this is discharged through a nylon mesh.

Less water is needed. The overall product is lighter, saving on transport costs. Smaller bottles can be used. Product last longer.
