A 0.37kw on-demand pump connected to a 44-gallon drum for drinking water starts and stops after 5 seconds. The pump switches on, the pressure drops from 4bar to zero, works briefly with slow water flow, then the "fault" light comes on and it stops. Resetting the pressure switch allows it to build pressure and repeat the cycle. The pump worked continuously for 3 hours during a ground test with a hose pipe.
Adendorf suggests insufficient inlet pressure, but the pump is rated to pull water from 1.8m below. Potential issues include a bad pump, inlet starvation, or excessive climb (3m). Other users suggest checking for inlet leaks, outlet pipe restrictions, and proper venting of the water drum.
The user checked the flow with the outlet disconnected and found it to be a trickle. Further investigation revealed a stopper lodged in an elbow of the inlet pipe, causing a restriction. Removing the stopper resolved the issue, and the pump now works correctly.
