Jim asked how much water would be needed for a 3" dredge, inquiring about gallons per minute, suggesting 50, 60, 70, or 100 or more gpm.
William suggested checking out Keene Engineering to see what pump/motor setup they use for their 3" dredge.
JEFF stated that a Keene 3" dredge uses a 5 hp B/S engine and a P180 pump with 300 G.P.M. He added that the bigger the engine, the more P.S.I. you get, and the higher the P.S.I., the more volume and more gold.
David suggested that Doc at Gold Hog has some good videos explaining volume/pressure/flow rates and how they all affect each other, recommending the "Proportional Force" video, with some segments specifically referring to dredges.
Michael suggested using a marble to test the water flow. While the dredge is running, drop the marble. It should roll off the sluice in about 3-4 seconds (depending on the angle). Adjust the throttle accordingly.
