There are different types of vaping and you will hear different terms branded about. Some users prefer a Mouth-to-Ling inhalations style, where they hold it in their mouth first, then inhale it. Other vape users like to breathe the vapour into their lungs straight away without stopping in the mouth (Direct-to-Lung). This gives better flavour on the exhale.
However, you may not even want to inhale the vapour at all. There is no real right or wrong way to use a vape. You can simply breathe it into your mouth and hold it there before releasing in a puff if you want to. This way you get the full vape juice flavour and less potential harm to your body. Alternatively, you might employ a vape inhalation style which works best for you.
FYI: ex-smokers prefer MTL vape styles while experienced vape users prefer direct to lung vaping.
If you choose to inhale the vapour then you will get a bigger nicotine hit. If this is the reason for vaping for you, then you will prefer to inhale the vapour.
If you are vaping for flavour alone and have no wish to use nicotine, then you are better to puff your vape without breathing it into your lungs.
If you are a new vape user and you want to practice, puffing will help you get used to the sensation.
If you are an ex-smoker then go straight for the MTL or inhale.
As you can see whether you puff or inhale a vape depends entirely upon your reasons for vaping.
Vaping is all about using tobacco products in a safer way than we have in the past. That does not mean it is risk free. While breathing in the vapour has the potential to harm your lungs over time, it will not be as extreme as what cigarette smoking will do. If you decide you only want to hold the vapour in your mouth without inhaling it, this can still deliver your nicotine hit without doing potential damage to your lungs.
There is always a flip side to things though. Holding vape juice in your mouth might harm your gums. Your home could even develop nicotine stains over time. In terms of harm reduction it is better to puff on a vape than to inhale it. As ever, the choice is yours.
