The GeekVape Aegis Legend 5 Mod
I was also given a code to take the price down and it’s GAL5M, which makes it so much cheaper.
I’ve always liked the Aegis range of mods. They set the standard for rugged devices, and I know if I have one I’ll always be able to take it out and about with no worry of breaking the thing if I drop it on the ground, in water or in a pile of dust or sand. And I do go to local beaches a lot.
I only went for the mod, as I have so many stock coil tanks sitting idle so in the box you get:
1 Aegis Legend 5 Mod
1 USB Type-C Cable
1 Manual Warning & Info Card
The Legend 5 is a dual 18650 mod that goes up to a maximum 200w, although why anyone would go to 200w I don’t know. At least the option is there though. It’s got a 1.08” colour screen and some nifty light strips down the side that you can customise. Charging is via a USB Type C slot should you wish to charge that way but I always recommend charging your batteries in a charger for safety and to prolong the battery life.
Style wise it’s got the classic metal C frame design, which I assume helps with durability. On the back is the, now standard, for the range, leather padding that keeps things comfortable and helps with grip. This time GeekVape have gone for a lock button, rather than the autolock that was on the last version of the Aegis Legend. I do prefer this as the autolock on the previous one, while very good, did start to stutter a touch as things went on and I found I’d be taking fresh air draws on very rare occasions. The switch just keeps things super consistent and it vibrates when you lock, unlock or try to fire it when locked, so you know by touch when it’s locked fully and don’t take that fresh air draw that infuriates me so much.
The screen rounds a bit onto the side to fit the light strips that pulse as you draw. I like it but you can turn them off as well. The top will take up to 28mm tanks so you can put your beefers on if you wish. The USB Type C slot is hidden under a rubber bung, to keep the water and dust out, and it’s not recessed like the original Legends, so you don’t need to use the included cable all the time like you used to have to do.
Function wise it’s loaded with features. Three clicks on the fire button will take you to the main menu where you can select mode, puffs, light, screen, battery and about. The modes are smart, eco, normal, custom and TC. The smart mode obviously sets the wattage at what the mod thinks it should be but the eco and normal ones do that too, just in the range of what the mod thinks the coil should be at, which is fantastic if you’re using a stock coil tank and makes things a lot easier. I prefer the custom mode as you’re not restricted to what wattage the mod likes you to be at, so I can adjust the wattage on my rebuildable tanks lower than the resistance suggests and get the draw I like most of the time. I’m glad that mode is there or I’d have to use stock coils rather than my RTAs. The TC mode lets you adjust your wattage and temperature if using a temp control material coil. It must auto recognise the coil material as I don’t see a way to pick.
The other options in the menu kind of explain themselves, other than the battery one. The puff menu lets you clear the puff count, the light lets you change the patterns of the lights on the side of the screen, or lets you turn them off completely. The screen menu lets you adjust the brightness. The battery menu is a new one for me and it lets you turn the smart battery management on of off, there’s a wee text on screen to say that it will manage the battery up to 80%. I don’t know what that means but surely it’s better for your batteries to use that if you’re charging through the mod.
In use I tried the eco and normal modes with my mesh rebuildable tank and they just didn’t fit. I like my tank under 60w, and it only allowed me to start at 70w on eco, up to 73, then 74w to 78 on normal then up to 80 on smart. Now that is great when you’re using a stock coil tank, especially the one included in the kit version but it’s not for me as a lightweight on an RTA.
So custom mode it was for me. And that’s what I use in most mods, even though I can appreciate the ease the other modes give for those who don’t tinker with things as much. I did end up setting my wattage closer to 60w than I usually would as I do find the GeekVape mods, especially the Aegis ones, seem a bit softer than some other manufacturers. It’s not a bad thing and not an issue as I only need to adjust by 4 or 5w to get the draw I like usually. Once it was where I liked the draw was lovely and smooth, and super consistent. GeekVape use their AS Chip 4.0 and it does keep things nice.
Overall, the Aegis Legend 5 is a top mod. It’s very nicely and consistently designed, its comfortable to hold and the chip inside is as class as always.
The durability of the thing is unmatched, even though other companies have tried to emulate it and I just like the confidence it gives to take it out and about and just not have a care in the world about it getting smashed up from a small drop.
Thanks again to Sourcemore for letting me have a go on this.
The GeekVape Aegis Legend 5 is the latest addition to GeekVape’s rugged Aegis line. Like its predecessors, it’s designed to be shockproof, waterproof, and dustproof, but GeekVape has made some nice upgrades on this model:
Power & Performance: It runs on dual 18650 batteries and can push up to 200W, giving plenty of power for sub-ohm tanks and rebuildables.
Chipset: Features the updated AS 5.0 chipset, which improves firing speed, accuracy, and stability.
Display & UI: Larger, brighter full-color screen with a simplified menu system that makes navigation smoother.
Durability: Built to military-grade standards (IP68), so it’s more resistant to drops and outdoor conditions compared to older versions.
Modes: Supports Power (VW), TC, Bypass, Smart Mode, and Boost for customized vaping experiences.
Design: Slightly more ergonomic grip than the Legend 2, with refined leather/rubber finishes for comfort.
Battery life is solid, but as with all dual 18650 mods, heavy use at higher wattages means you’ll want spare cells. Pair it with a good tank (like the Z Sub-Ohm 2021 or another high-airflow tank) for the best performance.
If you’re already a fan of the Aegis line, the Legend 5 is basically a tougher, smarter, and more efficient upgrade.
