Correct me if I'm wrong, last note said that with B42 most mods will be broken so I'm wondering will it be the same case with weapons, clothes, cars and additional areas? Is the game changing engine or something?
Do you mean in vanilla? Everything from B41 save-wise will not be compatible with B42 because the changes are too fundamental. B41 saves will flat out not work on B42 at all.
Not the saves, the mods. For instance Vanilla Firearms Expanded, KI5 Vehicles and many other clothing mods like Spongie and Kattaj1's Tactical Clothing
I guess it needs to be made crystal clear, everything will break, accept the base game, and even that will probably be broken as well. It's normal when a major version change happens that many things break like mods, saves and so on.
Far as I understand all the files are getting a rewrite. Which means how they are structured AND how they work will be different. Now for mods that use scripts to add items.. maybe. It depends how mod works and the file they effect. The chances that a mod will work from 41 to 42 is extremely low. Far as I understand again they are completely redoing game. Functions and API changing.. Which means 99% of all mods likely wont work. Some might seem to work but wont completely work as intended due to the changes as well.
Can't much bcus it's also not fun to play with only two or three types of weapons, clothes or cars
They are adding more features to keep things interesting, but the change will break things, it's something you will have to come to terms with.
Mods will come quickly though. There are still many modders for this game. They also will be given access to stuff prior to full release through dev software. "There is a mod kit right?" And they also getting new API guide as well. So the documentation they need to mod will be made available. They also stated it be easier to mod 42 as well. So I expect around a month to get a decent amount of new mods uploaded. Many less time..
Didn't something say they were spending weeks reaching out to mod teams with a more simple framework for converting or adding their mods into the new build? Hopefully this means some of the larger mods will have rollouts sooner than later. I dont know fingers crossed.
There was mention of a way to convert to new format i believe yes. Which is why I dont think it be long after 42 drops that we start seeing lot of new mods or updated ones.
Honestly it will be nice to play unmodded again anyways, my mod-list bloat has gotten out of hand and i have a hard time making cuts. I suspect like others have said that many mods will have a decently fast update regardless.
It'll probably be one of those cases where it's more work up front to do the conversions, but from then on updates will (hopefully) be a snap. For the mods that is.
Thats what I got from their thrusdoid. That they making it so modding is easier. So Im going to hold on to hope that doesnt take long :-)
No mods will work until they are updated.
You can stay on B41 to maintain your save with your mods. You do not have to change to the experimental branch. The purpose of the experimental branch is to test the game vanilla as much as possible to give them proper feedback. Using mods is only going to ruin that entirely.
