Key Functions of Mud Pump Liners

Mud pump liners are replaceable components within a mud pump that directly interact with the drilling fluid or “mud.” These liners fit inside the cylinder of the mud pump and serve several important functions:

Sealing: Mud pump liners ensure a tight seal between the piston and the cylinder wall, which is critical for maintaining the necessary pressure to push the mud effectively through the drilling system.

Withstanding Abrasion: Drilling mud can be highly abrasive due to the suspended solids and cuttings it carries from the borehole. Liners are designed to withstand this abrasion and protect the cylinder walls from excessive wear.

Types of Mud Pump Liners

The types of mud pump liners are Bimetal liner and Ceramic liner.

Bimetal liners are the most common type of cylinder liner, while ceramic liners have a longer service life but are more expensive.

Types of Mud Pump Bimetal Liners

There are two kinds of LONGWELL’s Bimetal liners: high chrome liner and High-frequency quenching liner.

The former is made of carbon steel. The inside of it is plated with high-chrome alloy-steel to achieve good wear resistance. LONGWELL Mud Pump metallic liner sleeves are structured with the maximum amount of chrome for the base metal, inserted into the forged steel hull at full tension.

The latter is manufactured by High-frequency quenching. The inside of the mud pump liner is cemented and hardened to enhance the surface hardness. The High-frequency process offers higher cost-effectiveness.

The outer rust prevention adopts a high-temperature phosphating process without painting, which provides better corrosion resistance and is more environmentally friendly.

Size of Mud Pump Liners
