I am fighting a sewer gas smell in the basement around the sewage ejector pump basin(Tank). The lid of the tank has been silicone'd to death. Have a shower - 2 sinks - 2 toilets in the basement. I have ran the water in the basement sinks/shower for about 7 minutes every 2 days && Flushed the toilets 2 x also. The sewage ejector pump basin has a 2" vent - 2" vent runs up the wall, across the floor where it T's into a 2" vent line that goes out the roof of the house. The other side of the T goes to the sinks to vent the fixtures(sinks) - its worse when it rains - house is 4 years old new construction I pulled the plug on the top of the tank that allows the power wire to go to the pump and it definitely stinks in there.
assuming that the vent thru the roof is working, the only thing I can think of is to have someone run a smoke test. are you 100% sure the smell is coming from the tank and not the toilet seal/s?
Getting a smoke machine as we speak. The sewage pump is in a closet that is located in a bigger closet, the smell is the strongest in that area. Sink/shower/toilet in the full bathroom dont have a distinct smell. Sink/toilet in the half bathroom dont have a distinct smell I was told to fill the bathtub up with a combination of water and lemon scented bleach and drain the tub to see if the drain is working correctly(it will gurgle if blocked up)
even if the bathtub drain is blocked, that would not make the ejector pit leak odors. additionally, if the vent thru the roof was blocked, nothing would drain well as the air displaced by the draining water has no where to go. don't bother to try to make the inside of the tank odor free. it won't happen.
The 4" drain from the bathroom enters into the basin thru a gasket. If the gasket is compromised in any way, it can leak odors. Normally, the basin is concreted in to the floor, but that does not necessarily guarantee that odors cannot escape, or water for that matter.
the last couple of ejectors i put in have a 4" plastic pipe molded into the tank side. you just use a no-hub coupling to attach to it. i do remember the type you are talking about. had some sort of tapered gasket that the pipe went thru and sealed the hole in the side of the tank.
I smoked the tank last night and there are 5 leaks around the perimeter. Going to pull the lid, clean/remove the silicone and work on sealing it up again.
Silicone or plumbers putty?
I pulled everything, stripped the silicone and re-did all of the silicone work. Sealed between the lid and tank and then lid and surrounding concrete.
Hi- I'm having this same issue. Installed brand new Zoeller basin in our basement with duplex set up- brand new pumps, piping, check valves, everything. No water leaks, pumping beautifully. Even silicone'd the lid esp. around the power cable plugs. When I run the guest bathroom shower, we notice a strong sewage smell emanating from the basin, which is directly below our master bathroom. So we know it's not due to the shower being backed up- it seems to be from when a large volume of water pours into the basin and unsettles the gas residing in the basin. The 2" vent pipe is newly installed, so what else could this be- is the lid, although brand new, not sealed properly and should be siliconed as well? Suggesting my plumber come back to run a smoke test.
Hi, Did the smoke test ever determine the issue? We are having the same issue with our ejector pump pit. Our next step is to do a smoke test. Thank you!
Hi, did you ever determine the fix for your issue? It sounds EXACTLY like the issue we are having. Two different plumbers (and three visits) have not been able to correct the issue. Thank you for any information you can provide!!
