Foam located on inside of Fairing

Benjammer asks about purchasing OEM foam cutouts for the inside of the fairings, specifically the piece located on the left side where the oil filter is changed.

DJB identifies the foam pieces as dampers and refers to number 11 of the cowling 2 diagram.

Denver_FJR mentions their left side damper disintegrated and they replaced it with similar grey foam used as packaging, glued in place with 3M Super77.

Coastie asks what the foam is for, as they don't see any in their 07.

Auburn explains there is foam on the inside of the lower fairings and suggests making replacements and sticking them in place with 3M 77 spray adhesive. They believe it serves two purposes: to protect the metal surfaces and the inside of the fairing, and to help control air flow and heat.

Auburn also suggests taping a piece of paper under the oil filter area to prevent oil from dripping on the foam.

gixxerjasen says the foam is there to catch any oil you spill.

ehc0720 mentions the only piece of foam they had was by the oil filter and added close cell foam wrapped in heat shield foil to the lower right side to reduce heat.

Auburn provides pictures of the foam inside a new fairing for an '06.
