marine dredge pump 90

SOLVED: Not draining at the end of of the cycle - Maytag Dishwasher

Not draining at the end of of the cycle

Dishwasher that is less than two years old does not drain at the end of the cycle. You can press the drain/cancel button and it will drain 50% of the time. I can hear the motor or pump running. We already replaced the control board, that was not the solution. No lines were clogged and the dishwasher does not run through the garbage disposal.

    Answer

The drain pump uses an impeller to force water through the drain hose. If the drain pump motor is not working, the dishwasher won’t drain. To determine if the drain pump is defective, check the pump motor for continuity using a multimeter. If the motor does not have continuity, or if is getting power but won’t run, replace the drain pump. Drain pumps are not repairable—if the drain pump is defective, you must replace it.

The drain impeller pushes water through the drain hose and into the garbage disposer or drain line. If the impeller is broken, replace it.

The drain solenoid opens the drain valve to allow the water to exit the dishwasher. If the drain solenoid fails the valve will not open causing the dishwasher not to drain.

    Answer

Things to check for a dishwasher that won’t drain:

If there is no sound when you press the drain button then it could be a faulty drain pump.

Check the drain pump for continuity and measure resistance. Make sure it is within spec listed on the Technician diagnostic sheet usually hidden behind the kick panel.

Check that there is power running to the drain pump after pressing the drain button. Careful with live voltage.

Check that the wiring has continuity and visually inspect for breaks or worn jacket.

Make sure there is no clog in the drain line or the flapper valve is not stuck or broken.

If there is a newly installed disposal make sure the drain hose port has the knock out removed.

If the drain pump seems ok, but there is no power to the drain pump and wiring is ok then it could be the control board. You can probe on the board to check for continuity on the drain pump circuit and that the fuse is intact by following the Technician diagnostic sheet instructions.
