Hooking up discharge piping for my sump pump. I plan to use 1-1/2" PVC. It has to make several turns before reaching the exterior wall. 22 feet total. So my question is this: Which has less resistance for the water flow: a long 90-degree elbow or a 45-degree elbow? I can use either but want to minimize the restrictions so that my pump can operate fully.
The 90 will be at least triple the resistance of the 45. Seems wrong, until you think on it, at 90 you are severly stopping the inertia to change directions. At 45 you are just redirecting inertia.
Yes, but a "long" 90 has a larger radius. So it's not a hard 90 degree turn.
A long-sweep 90 will have very slightly less friction loss than two 45s.
Thanks for providing the link to the table. This is exactly what I need.
