Hi all, Since the almighty Austrian ghost wasn’t showing its face lately I was enjoying my time with the car and looks like I got jinxed myself, short story I was driving back from work , some mild highway driving and stopped to get something to eat I hear tremendous amount of noise coming from my car, fans was fully kicked in and oil temp was just around 90 C degrees which is normal but still I waited for 20 minutes to car to cool off and started the car the fans were acting same again and the car was really unresponsive to throttle, Made it home safe and ran the bimmertool and got this: 20A804 , engine coolant pump blocked or bla bla bla So the question is now is there anyone here replaced this pain of the someplace water pump before ? I have took a photo of it and ordered same one fits on my VIN number. Also I confirmed with bimmertool that the fault is on pump itself always kept the rpm on pump 0 even I unplugged it and plugged it back no chage here. So if someone knows this will be possible to do it on your own I will be glad because don’t want to spend atleast couple hundred euros to a shop for replacement. Thank you all , And I wish you all a great weekend!
I had a shop do my wp on my 35ix as I read at the time it was a ton of work, not sure in your case as there may be more room. In retrospect, I really wish I'd had the hose from tstat to wo replaced as mine looks really soft. Maybe different on yours, see if you can inspect part 11538645479 (I think) If I recall correctly, tstat can last about two water pumps, I cheaped out at the time after a ~$1k tow and having recently purchased the vehicle. Since then I did several hoses and radiator (plastic hose fitting was cracked slightly and grew over time)
Hi qx, I had done the job myself and it was a bit on the easier side to reach the bolts from bottom via under the car , taking out the pump was struggling but with patience its also possible, after the replacement immediately car was better in holding temps , with the old pump temps were around 105 - 120 degrees now its around 90 - 107 .
