Coolant Leak - Water Pump

    Coolant Leak - Water Pump

I was driving my 2021 X5 with 55K miles when all of a sudden I feel and here a jolt from my engine, as if something broke off. I immediately get a Power Supply warning and when I get home my coolant leaked all over the floor. Dealer says my water pump failed. Isn't this unusual for 55K? Is there an underlying issue I should be concerned about and how do I know the engine wasn't compromised? Anyone else have this experience?

    Coolant Leak

Personally I think it mid rare to have water pump failed at 55k. It should last much longer. Having cooling system leak at 55k is not uncommon on bmws. What matter ks did the engine over heat. If you didn’t lose a lot of coolant and temperature gauge never reach red, engine should be ok.

Mine failed at just under 40k. Had it replaced under warranty. Also a '21

    I had a water pump fail around 40K on a 2012 X3 I once owned.

Mine is leaking and in the shop rn 89000kms. Out of warranty aug 2023, extended warranty to aug 2025 120000kms kicked in. Had a 55 point inspection done and it was noticed while up on a hoist.

Dealer replaced my water pump under warrant before I purchased the car (CPO) @ 33k miles. I'm now smelling a bit of coolant after I shut the car off, wondering if it's leaking again.

Mine failed at 30K on my X5M. It started to make weird noises that could be heard at idle then slowly got worse where it seized and destroyed the belt and other pulleys. Lucky it was all covered by warranty.

My 2022X5 water pump just went and I was told that the water pump has been recalled and the new one is on infinite back order. So now my car is just sitting at the dealer and I have a loaner for the foreseeable future.

46k. Under warranty still. But just inconvenient

    23500 miles 2023 x5 water pump fail.

2021 X5 4.0 MSport - just had dealer replace my second water pump at 38k miles. The first one went at about 24,000 miles. Doesn't make for a lot of confidence as the warranty expiration drives near.

i just ran into this issue and my warranty expired 2 months ago .. now at dealer ship for replacement.. have to pay 2K as i didn’t purchased extended warranty .. mine is 2021 with 35K miles ..driving with family and occurred at 11PM on high way ..not at a good experience

They charged me $2000 (1600 for labor and 400 for pump). I have to BMWNA and see what they say.

Water pump replacement at 48k miles under warranty just before 50k expiration. Seems to be common thread.

Had a low coolant message yesterday. Checked coolant tank it’s probably about 1/2 filled to where it should be (Engine was cold). Didn’t see any obvious leaks in the area and due to splash shields no visible leaks on driveway. Refilled coolant and took to service. Technician sent video and there is quite a significant prolonged leak based on the amount of residue. Culprit Water Pump failure. Out of warranty and no extended, quoted $2200 but dealer was kind of enough to cover most so a little over $500 out of pocket. No other warning messages present outside of recent low coolant.
