Flotec is known for providing residential water management solutions.
The pumps are designed for easy installation for the do-it-yourself home owner.
The 3/4 HP sump pump FPS4550A comes with full lifetime warranty.
Two types of floats are used: tether and vertical.
Pump housing includes several types:thermoplastic, zinc, zinc/cast-iron, zinc/thermoplastic, and cast-iron.
The FPZT Series are uni-body which eliminates the potential for oil leak because of screws in pump housing.
Flotec has twenty-two different models. The E models are known for their energy efficiency. Some model numbers include the construction material used; S for steel; CI for cast iron, Z for zinc. Other models include a V for vertical or T for tether to identify the type of float switch. Many 1/4 horsepower pumps are identifed with the number 25. The 1/3 horsepower pumps are identifed by a '33'. The 1/2 horsepower are identifed with a '50'. The 3/4 housepower are identifed with a '75'.
ExxxLT Models - E50VLT, E50TLT, E75VLT(Cast-Iron Housing, Tether and Vertical-Float)
FPOS Models - FPOS1800A, FPOS2400A, FPOS2450A, FPOS3200A Thermoplastic Housing, Tether and Vertical-Float)
FPSC Models - FPSC2200A, FPSC2250A,FPSC3250A, FPSC3350A (Stainless Steel Housing Cast-Iron Base, Tether and Vertical-Float
FPZS Models - FPZS25T, FPZS33T, FPZS33V, FPZS50T, FPZS50V, FPZS75V(Zinc Housing, Tether and Vertical-Float)
FPCI Models - FPCI3350, FPCI5050 (Zinc Housing Cast-Iron Base, Vertical-Float)
FPZT Models - FPZT7350, FPZT7550 (Zinc Housing, Vertical-Float)
Thermoplastic, zinc, steel and cast-iron are used for motor housing.Zinc is stronger than thermoplastic; however, it is not stronger than steel or cast-iron.
Cast iron is the strongest. As for motor housing, zinc is much better than thermoplastic because it dissipates heat well and thus extends the life of the motor.
Zinc is easier to mold than any of the other materials listed. Flotec is using zinc more than cast iron or thermoplastic for its motor housing. Those pumps with zinc motor housing also have zinc volutes. Zinc, thermoplastic and steel are corrosion resistant. Cast iron is coated to resist corrosion.
The newest models of Flotec Sump Pumps, the FPZT series, have a uni-body housing. The Uni-body housing eliminates the need for screws in the housing and the potential of oil leak points where the screws are located.
Pumping capacity is associated with horsepower; however it is important to check the gallons pumped per hour because some 1/3 horsepower pumps can pump more than some 1/2 horsepower pumps.
One fourth horsepower pumping capacity ranges from 1640 GPH at 10 feet (Model FPOS1800A) to 2480 GPH (Model FPZS33T.
One third horsepower pumping capacity ranges from 2000 GPH at 10 feet (Model FPCI3350) to 3540 GPH (Model FPSC2200A).
One half horsepower pumping capacity ranges from 2700 GPH (Model FPOS3200A) to 4140 GPH at 10 ft. (Model FPZT7350).
The three fourths horsepower pumps range from 3540 GPH at 10 ft. (Model FPZS75V) to 4500 GPH (Model FPZT7450).
The one horsepower pump has a pumping capacity of 4950 GPH at 10 ft.(Model FPZT7550).
If you do not know how much pumping capacity your sump pit may require, take a yardstick and see how many inches the water on the yardstick in one minute. One inch in an eighteen inch diameter pit equals one gallon. For example if the water raised 20 inches in one minute then 20 inches equals 20 gallons; twenty gallons times 60 minutes equals 1220 gallons per hour.
Most Flotec sump pumps have a bottom screen to prevent impeller jamming; however the Model FPSC3250A has a vortex impeller. A vortex impeller allows solid particles to flow throught the impeller. A bottom screen prevents solids from entering the impeller however the screen needs to be cleaned periodically.
The FPZS series sump pumps have a piggy back switch. These include the Models FPZS33V, FPZS50T, FPZS50V, and FPZS75V. The piggy back switch is very useful if the float switch fails and you are home at the time and aware of the float switch failure.
The piggy back switch makes it possible to unplug the pump cord from the piggy back switch and instead plug the motor cord directly into the wall socket. When the pump motor is plugged directly into the wall socket, the pump will keep running until it is unplugged. This type of usage means it is necessary to pull the plug every time the pit has no water in it. Failure to unplug the pump when the water is below the pumps base impeller will cause the pump to run dry and burn out.
Generally float switches fail during heavy rainstorms; therefore being able to run the pump without the float switch can prevent the basement from flooding until it is possible to replace the sump pump float switch.
Do you have a small pit and have concern about float hang up? The vertical float moves up and down so all models with a vertical float will fit in a 10 inch pit.
Do you want a pump that is built to last? The pump housing for the FPCI3350, FPCI5050 is made of cast-iron. Cast-Iron is very durable.
The models FPZT7350 and FPZT7450 eliminate the need for a lower motor housing seal thus preventing the possibility of motor oil leakage which can occur on any non uni-body sump pump.
Do you want a pump that has a non clog design? Each model handles clogging potential differently; however the FPCS3250A and the FPSC3350A have a vortex impeller. A vortex impeller allows solids up to 1/2 inch to flow through the impeller and there is no screen to clean.
Do you want an energy efficient model? The E50VLT, E50TLT, E75VLT, FPZS33V, FPZS33T, FPZS50T, and FPZS50V are the energy efficient models. The E75VLT has the most pumping capability.
Are you looking for a pump that is competitively priced? The Flotec sump pumps are very competitively priced for their quality features.
Finally A Pump To Handle 13 Foot Vertical Lift, August 11, 2016
By Steve Jackson, New Jersey
After burning out two sump pumps I finally found the Flotec E75VLT. We have a thirteen foot vertical lift from the sump pump discharge port to the horizontal discharge piping. We also have a ninety degree elbow and a forty-five degree elbow. Even though other pumps say they should be able to handle a thriteen foot vertical lift, they do not. So I was very glad to find this. I would recommend the E75VLT to anyone with a high lift.
Lasted 11 Years, July 9, 2016
By Harry Benton, Minnesota
Our old FPOS2450 lasted eleven years. That is good, so I bought another one. I am not sure, but I think our old FPOS2450 would have lasted longer because it looks like I should have cleaned the sludge that collects at the bottom of the pit. I also learned I can buy a replacement float for this pump so am glad of that.
Strong Pump, June 20, 2015
By Miles Brown, New Jersey
We get a lot of water during heavy rainstorsm. I am glad I found this pump. It has a lot of pumping power. After four months it is doing very well. Because it has a vertical-float I was able to install a battery backup sump pump beside it as well in the pit. I like the uni-body style. That elimenates a potential motor oil leakage.
Replaced an old 1/2 HP Flotec Ironmate, October 29, 2015
By Harry Bernstein, New York
I purchased another Flotec like my old one bcause it worked well. My new pump E50VLT is more energy efficient than the old one. However the E50VLT only has a 5 year warranty whereas my old one had a lifetime warranty. This is a cast-iron pump and fits easily into my pit because it has a vertical switch. I am satisfied with the pump so far.
Protected Us During Hurricane, September 29, 2011
By Kerry Johnson, New Jersey
We get a lot of rain during the hurricane - over ten inches. I was hoping my FPS4550A pump would hold up. It did. I had to write this review because the pump ran continuously for 3 days without fail. I was so greatful. So many of neighbors were not as fortunate. I helped them clean out flooded basements. Having a good sump pump is so important.
