The Most FUN (or effective) Sludge Pump / Wave Cooker Combo... Go!

The Most FUN (or effective) Sludge Pump / Wave Cooker Combo... Go!

OK. Normally I research everything and work things out on my own. Like: Seems like there's probably a really good pairing with one OC for Sludge and another OC for Wave Cooking. In this case, I'd enjoy hearing what our forum has to say about this. Hopefully something quick, effective ...and fun, ....for Sludge Pump and Wave Cooker.

Since sludge doesn't do temperature dmg, which wave cooker synergizes normally with, the best use for the combination I've seen is VS dreadnaughts debuffing with extreme slow speed so they can't do anything. Damage-wise it's not the best pairing.

A contamination build should be a good pairing, and it seems I remember a Drilling in the Name of video suggesting this about 8 months ago or so. This is probably what planted that seed for this pairing. I'll have to look that vid up again. That said, yeah, WC probably pairs with Driller's other primes even better than the Pump. ...but the SP is my fave so I'll look into a corrosion angle for the pair.

Sludge Pump: Overclock- Disperser Compound- 1,2,1,1,2 Wave Cooker: Overclock- Gamma Contamintion- 2,3,1,2,1 This build is all about the Dot damage. When fighting basic swarms the charge shot with the sludge will do. but when it comes to fighting the bigger stuff you want to shoot them ones with the sludge then start poking with the wave cooker. The cooker will be able to apply both Neurotoxin and irradiate Dos. With all the dots/slows you can stop firing safely watch as the bugs melts away. Is amazing vs any anything that relays on armor such as shellbacks of stingtails. Weaknesses: Caretaker fight, tower event and Hivegards (Flap Stage) can give your problems.

Blister stacking with VIM//Sludge Blast. Stack multiple blisters (the more the better of course) on a significantly tanky enemy (like a dread) and then do a charged shot. Most if not all of the blisters will be popped all at the same time, doing immense burst damage. This is my go-to method for Elimination as Driller. But, it works best in solo though. In teamplay your teammates are likely going to be popping the blisters (especially in pubs) to where you can't even stack them correctly to get your charged shot in for max effectiveness. Unless you can properly communicate with them, of course. You're also at the mercy of BN's somewhat bad feeling 10% proc chance, which may be off-putting for some people, so there's that. But, you can remedy it some with the two mods that increase the fire rate.

With any sludge build a good idea is to go for a gamma contamination wave cooker with its synergistic mod in t5. Also VIM with 1322x is so much darn fun you gotta try it

Thanks for the recommendations all. I'll check those builds the next time I'm on.

I checked some past notes and I used to run this on the Sludge Pump, 13221. I loaded it up and did a mission and remember why I stopped using it. This build doesn't even need a secondary because it just melts everything. Fun for a while, but gets a bit too simple for me. I'll look at Disperser Compound as well as the other SP OCs next to see if I can find a balance I like.

    Torres, The Devourer

Really? Dang. I know it's effective but wow. It's kind of a complement to here a build I like be called powerful! But anyways; Disperser compound is going to be your best bet in terms of OC for the weapon. It just makes the weapon so incredibly useful for crowd control. in other words, I hope you enjoy regardless of the build! (Oh! and try out that new reactive goo mix overclock. Its a weird one, but its a fun one)

For Sludge + WaveCooker: Sludge: 2-3-2-2-1 Volatile Impact Mixture WaveCooker: 2-1-1-2-1 Diffusion Ray or Blistering Necrosis You want the wavecooker T4 (Overdrive) activated most of the time. This build is ideal for run & gun play. The sludge pump is enough to take out trash while the wave cooker destroys anything it doesn't immediately melt. You can opt for BN for extra damage from sludge charge shots. Normally I just run & gun the build blorping anything in sight with regular shots and cook anything I want dead faster. For a more general defensive build: Sludge: 3-2-1-2-2 Disperser Compound EPC: 2-1-2-2-2 Magnetic Cooling Unit This build is ideal for defensive missions (Escort, Salvage) as well as Point Extraction where you want to tie up enemies and can use TCF for awkward Aquarqs. On Escort the TCF makes short work of beam pillars and rocks. It can also be handy for bringing down high up oil shale.

It doesn't really matter what you do with sludge, wave cooker is largely unaffected. Blistering Necrosis and Gamma Contamination are the favorites to bring with sludge. Necrosis puts boils on big bugs and you can then nuke them with a charge shot at the same time for a big burst. This feels like born ready stacking explosive reload, as in you are spending a lot of time to make a relatively big burst. I feel like BN leaves me waiting around for something to happen so I don't like it that much. Gamma Contamination comes with a nice DoT effect, it feels kind of like a flamethrower in your pocket. With sludge, people use it to stack as many DoT effects as they can which is pretty funny. It has a few flaws though. Firstly the DoT is really good at trash mobs, it's somewhat of wasted opportunity to put so much effort into DoT stacking a big bug. Secondly, contagion transmitter takes forever to proc, like bugs might stop being sludged before it happens. I feel like Mega Power Supply would get the most use out of contagion transmitter, you might get something resembling damage out of Super Focus Lens but with less rolls for neurotoxin. As for gamma contamination, Boiler ray is the default T5 mod for freeze and sludge, I'd recommend T1 shot width to really lean into the crowd clear, and of course leave t4 empty for a nice reload animation. Using cooker as your wave clear can open up more single target options like sludge blast.

Good stuff, thanks all! As an aside, I love how the Cooker insta-kills exploders, even from across a huge cave. I'll never get tired of that. lol

Cooker excels at a few things.. Swarmers/zappers/exploders... Gunk Seeds is a personal favorite of mine when I happen to be running the cooker. The densification (T3) + Diffusion Ray is honestly one of the most useful builds for the cooker.
