The Water Pump in Honda Accord cars is very important in the circulation of the coolant from the radiator to the engine. This enables the coolant to take heat typical as produced by the engine in order to allow the engine to work under the right temperatures particularly as the car speeds up. Water pumps for the Honda Accord are produced in several brands including Beck Arnley, Continental ContiTech, CVR Performance, and Four Seasons among others this makes available different products for replacement. While the specific types or styles of water pumps used in different Accord models over the years are not detailed, the consistent function remains the same: in order to enhance the process of engine cooling. Maintenance of the water pump is critical for the durability and efficiency of the automobile in question.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Drain the cooling system. If the coolant is relatively new or in good condition, save it and reuse it. Remove the drivebelt. For V6 models, remove the timing belt and the timing belt tensioner. Remove the water pump mounting bolts and detach it from the engine. Check the impeller on the backside for evidence of corrosion or missing fins. For four-cylinder models, remove the drivebelt tensioner. Remove the water pump mounting bolts and detach it from the engine. Access to some of the mounting bolts may be easier through the wheel well; You'll need to remove the inner fender splash shield. Check the impeller on the backside of the pump for evidence of corrosion or missing fins. Make sure the bolt threads and the threaded holes in the engine are clear of corrosion. Compare the new pump to the old one to make sure they're identical. Remove all traces of the O-ring from the engine mounting surface. Make sure that the mounting surfaces on the engine and water pump are clean. Place a new O-ring into the groove of the new pump. Carefully attach the pump to the engine and thread the mounting bolts finger tight. Make sure that the dowel pin(s) are in their original locations (if equipped). Tighten the bolts to the torque listed in the Specifications in 1/4-turn increments. Don't over tighten the bolts or the pump may become distorted and leak. Reinstall all parts removed for access to the pump. Refill the cooling system and check the drivebelt tension. Reconnect the battery. Run the engine and check for leaks.
A failure in the water pump can cause engine damage due to overheating. If a seal fails, coolant will leak from the engine timing belt cover (V6) or weep hole(s) (four-cylinder). Check for weep or vent holes with a flashlight. If the shaft bearings fail, there may be a howling sound near the pump. To check performance, make sure the coolant is full, start the vehicle, warm it up, turn on the heater, and check for little or no heat output. To be sure, remove the pump and examine it closely.
