Additional Information: Condensate pumps in hydronic systems are typically electrically powered centrifugal pumps. They range from small units in homes to large industrial pumps. These pumps often have a tank where condensate accumulates, and a float switch activates the pump once the liquid reaches a certain level. Some pumps feature a two-stage switch to prevent overflow and equipment damage.
 
Large industrial pumps can also serve as feedwater pumps, returning condensate to the boiler under pressure. These pumps must generate sufficient pressure to overcome the boiler's steam pressure, usually accomplished with a centrifugal pump. Some feedwater pumps run constantly and use a minimum flow device to avoid overpressure.
