My old Ingersoll rand 7/71 has packed in and I’m looking to buy a new/tidy second hand compressor. The standard max bar on compressors is usually 7 bar but u can get some that work to 10 bar and the pto type compressors seem to go to 10 bar. that would make a huge difference to blowing out times having that extra pressure so long as it didn’t blow holes in pipes. Considering pumps can reach 12/14 bar I’m thinking it’d be ok. Anyone tried a higher pressure compressor before?

Yeah from my experience volume is grand on the last 50% of the blow out but we’re often blowing 2000 meter + and the shear weight/resistance means it’s relatively slow for the first part. The 7/71 we have is 250cfm at 7 bar so plenty flow!

We use a 140cfm compressor,it blows out 2000m of 4” and 5” pipe fine with a sponge

What about the applied varimount 350cfm. Looks a nice compact unit, designed for the job. Won’t be cheap I reckon

Yeah they’re similar money to a new 140cfm road tow compressor. I ideally need the flexibility of a road tow.

you never had a problem here on 1200 4" with my 120cfm at 8 bar

Our Ingersoll Rand runs at 10 bar Pressure , It's not any better than a 7 Bar compressor at blowing out, it is the volume or air that helps , But We had a go with a 400 cfm compressor It blow the hose out so fast it did not clean it out right , These PTO one are mega money 16 or 17 K now & of the people I know running them not with out there problems , we blow out 4500 meters of 6 & 5" hose with a ball with our 3 tool compressor OK ,but we have blown a hose apart before today with it , if the hose has rolled down a hill & got in to a knot

The more air flow and pressure the better. Have a 250cfm and a 400cfm, lads didn't think there was much difference until they had to go back to the 250cfm. Pleaded to get the 400cfm back ASAP! The 400cfm does run at 10 bar, never had any problems regarding pipes bursting when blowing out.

If your pump is doing 15/16 bar how can 10 bar of air burst a pipe?

we do not run at 15/16 bar pumpimg slurry .

You would not pump all day at that pressure,burst pressure is 16bar on most quality pipe. 9/10 bar is plenty of strain on a pipe.

Yeah also I think its kinda different with air pressure, you’ll get 10/12 bar at the pump when pumping slurry but it’ll be more like 7/8 bar depending on distance etc in the field. With air you’ll get 10 bar in the field once it’s chased the slurry through, and with the drag pipe being potentially weaker in places I’d imagine a knot could encourage a burst at 10 bar compared to 7bar!
