dirty water pump toolstation

Water Pump Failure?!?!

    Water Pump Failure

Anyone had trouble with their water pump yet? Rocking a 2010 GSR with 37k miles and my pump had a bad wobble. Took it out to be replaces doesn't seem to be a bearing issue because its solid, and the pulley lays flat with no wobble on a flat surface.

Both my local parts stores ordered a new pump in for me but the hub that attaches to the pulley is round not triangular. Dealership wants around 400 for the entire setup.

The round head won't fit into the hole that you remove the old pump from unless you are to unbolt the top motor mount and lower the motor down a few inches. Any ideas would be awesome!

PS I am installing it from the underside in the passenger wheel well. Is there an easier way by removing some other motor parts?

Anyone changed one before and can lend me some pointers?!?! I've loosened motor mounts and everything else I can think of to get this circular one in the gap. Aside from pulling the motor or torching off the frame I don't see a way.

Well I ended up taking the assembly on the block of the motor that the pump fits into off, and got it to fit. All back together and huge leak from somewhere, probably the shitty gasket from the pump, factory was a metal gasket new one was paper.

Never put an auto zone part in your evo man! Go with OEM or bust. I know it's expensive, but the quality is on a completely different level.

More than likely I pinched the gasket causing it to leak everywhere. Going to try and take a look at it all this morning and take it all back apart.

This is what lead me to believe the pump or bearings were going out.

Turns out Mitsu replaces the pump, pulley, gasket, and the aluminum housing that bolts to the block of the motor and that the pump attaches to. Shitty pump was $50 from local place, entire assembly was about $350 from Mitsu. I ordered and overnighted the assembly this morning so I can get this thing back up and going. Gonna take it all back apart and then take any part that blocks my view or whatever off and put this together right.

This is what the dealership replaces for $350.

The left photo is the OEM pump with a triangular head that allows it to be taken out without removing the entire assembly attached to the block, the right is the aftermarket with a circular head that does not allow for this and just results and 6+ hours of trying to put the round block into the triangular hole, which we all know from kindergarten doesn't work unless you are that one kid who breaks stuff.

Parts will be here in the morning, but I decided to disassemble it tonight. Found the leak! Note to self if you ask your buddy that is helping you, by holding the light and handing you tools, if the gasket is seated properly make sure he knows what that means first lol.

Pump in and all is well as of last night. Let it run in the garage to get up to temp and make sure no leaks popped up. Ill do a write up as soon as I have time.
