Electric Water Pumps - Don Terrill’s Speed-Talk

    Electric Water Pumps

While drwsing craigslist this week I came upon a guy who had 3 BBC electric water pumps for $300. They were a used CSI, new CSR and a Miziere pumps. the CSI looks like it may have leaked in the past but my Stocker friend says they all do that time to time. My question is, do these pumps cool an engine in hot weather or should I just keep my blet driven pump?

    Re: Electric Water Pumps

They are intended for limited part time duty cycle use. Eg drag racing or very limited street cruising where you don't go far. For normal street driving towing etc etc the mechanical pump is better. may not have much of a service life in full time street driving duty.. Your mileage may vary. No idea if they are rebuildable,,, if-when.....

    Re: Electric Water Pumps

I run a CSR on my 406 and it rarely gets over 190 deg in the hottest weather. Mostly runs 170 deg.

    Re: Electric Water Pumps

I run a CSR for a couple of years, then rebuild but didn't last long as the seal leaked again, I have run a mezier for a couple of years now with no issues, I would not use anything else. They work well and used them for years on street / strip stuff. Hard to cool engine down after a pass with a MECHANICAL water pump.

    Re: Electric Water Pumps

Have a moroso one going on 10 years know on th street, no problems it has a 3,000hrs service life...............plus adds 8-12hp over a mechanical pump.

    Re: Electric Water Pumps

I have been running a 55 GPM Meziere in my street/strip 67 Camaro for 16 years with no issues. On my old 770 hp 496 and now my 830 hp 555. 15000 miles, Hot Rod Power Tour, etc. It consistently runs 170-180 degrees with a 160 thermostat. It has never leaked. They are rebuildable, I left a breaker bar on the crank and bumped the starter the first year I had it. Meziere replaced the motor, ceramic seal and polished it to look like new for a reasonable price in a short time. All in all, I couldn't be more impressed with the pump.

    Re: Electric Water Pumps

Been running mine for at least 10 years now. I do carry an extra relay just in case as I had one fail.

    Re: Electric Water Pumps

for a street car, the higher flow rate meziere is the only way to go. they run for a very long time.
