I am looking for a general idea of the cost to replace the timing belt and water pump on my 04 Forester XS. I am also going to have them through a new serpentine belt on too while they are at it, since it has just started to chirp a bit in the extreme cold and it hasn't been replaced ever and I am just about to 100K. I was quoted not more than $1,000 for all. The general answer to this question has been around $1k, depending on what other work you have them do while they're in there. For 2k I had timing belt (gates), all tensioners/pulleys, water pump, all the seals on the front +valve cover gaskets, all of the banjo bolt screens removed, rear springs replaced, STI catless uppipe +install, brake fluid flushed, alignment +balance and a number of other assorted things. For just timing belt and related parts I should be no more than 1,000, my cost was mostly labor as just about every bolt under my car is rusted solid. Just got the timing belt and both other belts replaced at a very reputable local Garage in western Md. and the costs were as follows, parts (all belts) listed for $204.48 and with the shop 10% parts discount, were $181.48 and labor at 55 per hour was $165.00, supplies $8.80 + $11.42 tax... Total was $366.70. I had the belts, pulleys, water pump, tensioner, accessory drive belt and front main seal replaced on my 01 a couple months ago and it was $1100 with parts, labour, taxes, and so on. Labor and parts came out around $700.
