Cast iron bath - replacement waste fitting

I have a cast iron bath that is 50 years old. i intend to have it re- surfaced as it's in pretty good shape. I do however want to replace the waste pipes, as the chrome plating is worn near the plug hole. Is this going to be possible? and if so how do I go about it? Will this be tricky as the bath has been there such a long time? I would appreciate any advice, Thanks!

Just buy a new chrome plated waste fitting for it unless you are a purist. In which case you could maybe get the old one re-chromed, so long as you can get it off in one piece. I dont get much chance to play with the likes of that these days but when I did I usually got the waste nuts off by heating them with a blowtorch and tapping the nut round with a hammer and an old screwdriver or a big pair of grips, stillsons or footprints™. Sticking 2 suitably sized screwdrivers through the plug hole and putting some sort of bar through them would stop the waste fitting from spinning round if necessary

Have been trying to find out about the possibility of doing just this with my old cast iron bath. Seemed a shame to get rid of something just because of the grotty waste. I'll give your suggestions a try. Thanks
