Heavy-Duty Chicken Wire

Our heavy-duty chicken wire is designed to provide an extremely high level of corrosion and rot resistance in both above ground and buried installations. We offer two options, both galvanized and stainless steel. Our galvanized chicken wire is galvanized twice, once prior to the wire being woven and then hot dipped galvanized after weaving. The result is a ultra-durable steel chicken wire which will stand up to the elements and even boasts an estimated lifespan of 6-10 years even when buried. For the ultimate in material longevity we also offer stainless steel chicken wire which is even more durable than our galvanized wire and is constructed from T-304 / 18-8 stainless steel which provides an extremely high level of durability when installed in wet environments. The stainless steel chicken wire provides an estimated lifespan of 25+ years when buried underground in moist environments. Both options are available in 100’ Roll lengths and provide a mesh opening of 3/4”.

Digger's Gopher Wire is stocked and ships from Northern California. Orders typically ship same day if placed before 9 AM Pacific Time. Shipping is free and most west coast customers experience delivery within two business days of ordering.

Gopher wire orders typically ship within one business day of order placement. Smaller orders of a few rolls ship via UPS / Fedex while larger orders ship by LTL freight. If your order ship via LTL freight the delivery company will contact you prior to delivery to arrange a delivery window that works with your schedule.

What About Moles?

Although gopher wire is not specifically designed to prevent mole intrusion, we have had customers that have installed it for this application and the gopher wire has proved effective at deterring moles from tunneling into landscape and lawn areas.

How To Work With The Fencing

Due to its flexible qualities, cutting should be a smooth process. If you are using tin strips, it can cover a larger area and allow for longer cuts. After you have finished cutting, run your glove down the edges to see if you have any sharp edges or protruding wires. If you find any sharp ends take your pliers and fold them back or twist them onto the main body of the wire. This will keep you or someone else from running the risk of getting cut when handling the wiring.

It's time to flatten the wire. Chicken wire will often curl up after cutting, especially if the wiring was initially rolled. Lay it flat using your hands or a heavy object to flatten it out. It will make it easier to work with when applying it to your project. As always, make sure you are wearing your gloves.

Carefully Position The Wire:

To align the wire, hold it against the brick wall making sure it is taut and correctly aligned. It can be helpful if you have someone to help you out by holding it in place. You should temporarily keep the wiring in place securing it at the top corners using U-shaped staples or masonry nails.

Secure The Chicken Wire:

U-shaped staples are perfect for attaching the chicken wire to brick walls. Start at one corner and hammer in the U-shaped staples to the mortar joints at regular intervals making sure the wire is taut. These spaces are horizontal gaps between the bricks. The joints are softer than the bricks making it much easier to secure the staples.

Note: If you do not have U-shaped staples, you can use masonry nails. That said, these nails will take more work. Position the chicken wire against the brick wall and hammer the nails through the wire into the mortar joints.

Added Stability

If you are working with a large area or you are worried that heavier items might be placed against the chicken wire, like climbing plants, you should add horizontal wooden battens for extra stability. Once done, attach the chicken wire to the battens.

You should regularly check the chicken wire's attachments, especially after a serious storm. You want to be sure it's still securely in place.

Attaching Chicken Wire To A Hedge
